Some of the best ideas for improving sustainability come from people who see the day-to-day work up close. Talk with your coworkers about small changes that could reduce waste, save water or energy, reuse materials, or simply make a process work better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe a designer has an idea for using leftover flowers, a greenhouse employee has noticed a leaky irrigation line, or a delivery driver sees a way to combine trips. You might be surprised by how many good ideas are already floating around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharing these observations can lead to simple solutions that might otherwise be missed. This month, start a conversation and choose one idea to try together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

July 2026: Conduct a 1-Day Waste Audit<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

Keep a notepad nearby for one day and tally the items that end up in the trash at your business. Pay attention to common sources of waste, such as floral trimmings, damaged flowers, cardboard, plastic sleeves, buckets, or excess packaging. At the end of the day, ask yourself, “Which one of these could we realistically reduce, reuse, recycle, or replace?” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t have to solve every problem at once. Simply identifying your biggest sources of waste is a great first step and can help you prioritize where small changes will have the biggest impact. Even a single question can encourage greater transparency and show suppliers that sustainability matters to their customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May 2026: Share Your Goals with Customers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

People love hearing about the small changes businesses are making to be more sustainable. Talk openly about what you\u2019re working toward and the steps you\u2019re already taking, even if you\u2019re still figuring it out as you go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example:
\u201cWe\u2019re trying to cut down on the amount of floral waste that ends up in the landfill, so we added compost bins at each design station. We are working with a local composter to make sure this waste is handled responsibly and can be re-used as nutrients for future plants.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don\u2019t have to be perfect to start the conversation. Invite customers into the conversation and show that small changes really do add up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
