Organizers and Research Team

Sustainabloom was developed by the American Floral Endowment (AFE) as a collaborative program with participation by all segments of the floral industry. The program aims to provide education and research-driven guides and resources to support sustainability in all areas of floriculture, for all sizes of businesses.

The program is managed by Dr. Amanda Solliday, AFE Executive Director Debi Chedester, and the AFE Board of Trustees, with valuable guidance from the Sustainabloom Committee comprised of industry supporters and experts. Established in 2022, Sustainabloom was guided by a research team at NC State University led by Dr. Melinda Knuth and Dr. Brian Jackson, which helped lay the foundation for program. Their expertise was instrumental in researching the industry’s needs, evaluating existing sustainability information, and identifying gaps.

Participation and collaboration remain at the heart of Sustainabloom. Industry organizations, businesses, researchers, and individual professionals are encouraged to use the resources, share their sustainability stories, contribute ideas, and become partners in the program. Together, these collaborations will continue to drive floriculture forward, providing the education, research, and resources needed to advance a more sustainable future for floriculture.
